Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 0.5 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.75 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup beef broth low-sodium preferred
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slice provolone cheese or American cheese
  • 4 bun hamburger buns toasted

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the diced onion and sliced green pepper; sauté until softened and translucent, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Stir in the ketchup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning. If mixture is too thick, add a splash more broth; if too thin, simmer a few more minutes.
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns, top each with a slice of provolone, and place under a hot broiler for 1 to 2 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve hot with pickles or fries, and enjoy your Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes.

Notes

For a more authentic cheesesteak texture, substitute thinly sliced ribeye for the ground beef and cook quickly over high heat. You can also add sautéed mushrooms if desired.
