Preparation Steps
Zest one or two oranges, then juice enough oranges to measure 4 cups of fresh orange juice. Strain to remove pulp if desired.
In a large pitcher or food-safe jar, combine the granulated sugar with the cold water and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add the fresh orange juice, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract and orange zest to the sugar mixture. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
Slowly pour in the Everclear (or chosen alcohol) while stirring to incorporate. Taste and adjust sweetness or vanilla as needed.
Transfer the mixture to sealable bottles or jars. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow flavors to meld and the mixture to chill thoroughly.
Before serving, gently shake or stir the bottles. Serve chilled in small glasses (about 2 fl oz per serving) over ice or neat. Store refrigerated and consume responsibly within 2 weeks.
Notes
For a lower-proof version, substitute Everclear with high-proof vodka or reduce the alcohol by half and add a little more orange juice. Shake well before serving as cream can separate. Keep refrigerated.
