  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cups butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups milk
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cups butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Baking Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix until well incorporated.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and milk into the mixture.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Distribute the batter evenly into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually mix in the powdered sugar.
  • Add milk and vanilla, mix until smooth and fluffy.
  • Frost the cooled cupcakes and decorate as desired.

Notes

For a fun twist, try adding sprinkles or edible glitter to the frosting.
