Instructions
Preparation Steps
Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. If desired, separate wingettes and drumettes and discard or save wing tips.
Place the wings in an even layer in the bottom of the crockpot. Slightly overlap if needed but avoid tightly packing.
In a bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce and brown sugar until smooth. Pour the sauce over the wings, tossing gently to coat all pieces.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours (or HIGH for 2 to 2.5 hours) until wings are cooked through and tender.
For crispy skin, transfer wings to a foil-lined baking sheet, brush with extra sauce from the crockpot, and broil 3 to 5 minutes until edges are caramelized. Watch closely to avoid burning.
Let rest 2 minutes, then serve hot. Garnish with chopped parsley or sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
To reduce sugar, use a lower-sugar BBQ sauce and reduce or omit the brown sugar. Wings can be made a day ahead and reheated under the broiler to re-crisp.
