Servings: 8-10 biscuits

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

In the gentle embrace of dawn, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl, laying the foundation of a beautiful day.

To this, introduce the cold butter, cutting it in until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs, much like the texture of soft morning sands.

Now, whisper in the milk or buttermilk, folding it gently until a soft dough forms. Just as the morning sky unveils its hues, fold in the blueberries and, if desired, lemon zest.

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle. Cut out circles using a biscuit cutter, and place them on a baking sheet.

As they bake, the kitchen fills with a scent that mirrors the promise of a beautiful day ahead. Once golden brown, remove and let them cool.

For the glaze, whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled biscuits, like morning dew on flower petals.

Tips or Notes:

  • Always use cold butter to achieve flaky biscuits.
  • Be gentle with the dough to avoid overworking it, which could result in tough biscuits.
  • The lemon zest adds a refreshing zing, complementing the blueberries.
  • Serve with a dollop of clotted cream or a smear of butter for a richer experience.
