Introduction:

Dive into a fairy tale with Unicorn Bark – a delightful and visually striking treat that’s as fun to make as it is to eat. Made using swirling pastel chocolates and sprinkled with an array of colorful toppings, it’s an edible mosaic that embodies the magic of unicorns. This recipe is not only perfect for themed parties and celebrations but also makes for a lovely treat to brighten up any day.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Set Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • White chocolate or candy melts in pastel colors (pink, purple, blue, yellow, etc.) – 3 cups total
  • Rainbow sprinkles – 1/4 cup
  • Edible glitter or shimmer dust (optional)
  • Edible star-shaped sprinkles or any other whimsical shapes you prefer
  • Crushed pastel-colored candy or candy pearls

Directions:

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Make sure it’s large enough to spread out the chocolate thinly.
  2. Separate the white chocolate or candy melts by color into different microwave-safe bowls.
  3. Starting with one color, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat as white chocolate can seize easily. Repeat with all colors.
  4. Taking one color at a time, pour dollops of the melted chocolate randomly onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Using a spatula or the back of a spoon, gently swirl the colors together to get a marbled effect. Don’t over-swirl, or the colors may mix too much and become muddy.
  6. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle generously with rainbow sprinkles, edible glitter, star-shaped sprinkles, and crushed candy. Press lightly to ensure they stick.
  7. Allow the unicorn bark to set. This can be done at room temperature, but for quicker results, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  8. Once set, break the bark into whimsical, irregular pieces using your hands or a knife.

Notes:

  • You can also use a combination of white chocolate and colored candy melts for variety.
  • Feel free to customize the bark with other toppings like edible flowers, mini marshmallows, or any other pastel or shiny confectionery items.
  • Storing the bark in an airtight container will keep it fresh for up to two weeks.

FAQ:

  1. Can I use dark or milk chocolate for this recipe?
    • While white chocolate or candy melts best capture the pastel unicorn theme, you can use dark or milk chocolate as a base layer for a different flavor profile.
  2. I don’t have a microwave. How can I melt the chocolate?
    • You can melt the chocolate using a double boiler method. Place a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (the bowl should not touch the water), and stir the chocolate until melted and smooth.
  3. Can I make this vegan?
    • Yes, use vegan white chocolate or candy melts and ensure all added candies and sprinkles are vegan-friendly.
