The easiest way to make authentic Southern fried chicken is with this time-honored recipe. With its crunchy exterior and tender interior, this dish is sure to become a household favorite. There is no need for a prolonged buttermilk marinade, so preparation ahead of time is not an issue.

The two-step batter calls for dipping the chicken in a milk and egg mixture before coating it in seasoned flour. Boneless chicken breasts or thighs can be used in place of their boned counterparts in a variety of other recipes with excellent results. The recipe calls for bone-in pieces, but boneless chicken breasts or thighs will yield the same delicious results in a different dish.

Accompany with a selection of starch and veggie sides, such as mashed potatoes, cole slaw, creamed corn, and so on.

Ingredients:

Two large eggs

1/2 liter of milk

The equivalent of 2 teaspoons of paprika

Seasoning for half a chicken

To taste, add more salt if desired.

The equivalent of 2 teaspoons of black pepper

Two cups of regular flour

Instructions:

Step 1:

In a tiny bowl, gently combine the milk and eggs.

Step 2:

To make the coating, combine the flour, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and paprika in a plastic bag.

Step 3:

Place the chicken in a sealable plastic bag and shake to coat it with the flour mixture. Chicken coated in flour is removed from the bag, dipped in the egg mixture, and then coated again in flour.

Step 4:

Warm oil to 365 degrees in a skillet of suitable size. Get the chicken nice and brown by frying it in some hot oil. Cook for about 30 minutes with the heat turned down to medium.

Step 5:

Use paper towels to absorb the excess liquid, then serve the chicken.

Tips

Make sure whatever you use is suitable for deep-frying if you’re not going to use vegetable oil. At the temperature called for in this recipe, oils with a low smoke point will burn, filling your kitchen with smoke instead of the delicious smell of fried chicken.

The most accurate way to determine when meat is done is with a meat thermometer. Chicken should be cooked to 165 degrees Fahrenheit to be served safely. A fork test will reveal whether or not the juices are uncontaminated.

Fried chicken is easy to reheat in the microwave. Bring the chicken out of the fridge and let it warm up. In order to bake successfully, an oven temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit is required. Roast the chicken for 15 to 20 minutes, or until cooked through and crisp, on a rack set over a rimmed baking sheet.
