Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Total Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough or biscuit dough
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Once browned, drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until they soften, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar to the skillet, mixing well. Season with salt and pepper, then let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Transfer the sloppy joe mixture to a casserole dish (around 9×13 inches).
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the sloppy joe mixture.
- Carefully unroll the crescent roll or biscuit dough and lay it over the top of the cheese, covering the casserole.
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider incorporating a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a dash of chili powder into the sloppy joe mixture.
- Vegetables such as corn or diced tomatoes can also be mixed into the beef for added texture and flavor.
