This page will give you with a delicious and simple recipe for Sweet Amish Macaroni Salad, as well as some background information on the dish’s origins and ingredients. Also, we will offer suggestions for enhancing the salad’s flavor and healthfulness.

Where and how the Sweet Amish Macaroni Salad Came to Be

Sweet Amish macaroni salad follows a long tradition of tasty and substantial dishes made by Amish communities. Amish women are credited with introducing mayonnaise and sugar to the traditional macaroni salad dish in the middle of the twentieth century, marking the genesis of this salad.

Pickles, celery, and carrots have been added to the original recipe throughout the years to give the salad a bit more crunch and texture. It’s no secret that Sweet Amish Macaroni Salad has gone global in recent years.

When I think of cold salads like macaroni salad, I think of picnics, and more especially, church picnics when I was a kid. I cherished these gatherings and eagerly anticipated seeing what people had brought to share. My all-time favorite recipe was, and still is, Sweet Amish Macaroni Salad, which I make whenever I need a quick side dish for a party or picnic or when I’m craving it.

It’s the contrast in textures between the crisp vegetables, the tender pasta, and the soft eggs that really sells this dish for me. This macaroni salad is sweeter than the classic one, but you may always reduce the sugar if you like. Before I toss it with the salad, I give the dressing a quick taste to make sure it’s just how I want it.

Luckily for me, my loved ones share my enthusiasm for this salad. While I prefer it with Miracle Whip, the standard recipe calls for mayonnaise because that is what most people prefer. Using Miracle Whip in place of mayonnaise is easy; just adjust the dressing accordingly.

Macaroni salad with hard-cooked eggs, bell pepper, and celery in a tangy vinaigrette; a colorful and tasty side dish. You’ve made the best macaroni salad I’ve ever tasted. Invariably, I am bombarded with requests for my recipes. Enjoy!

This is a fantastic, mouthwatering recipe. The sugar content is lower than usual because I used less of it. I believe that a quarter to a third of a cup would be perfect for my family. As I was missing a few key components, I struggled to complete this dish.

For the record, I’m not a huge lover of macaroni salad and am perfectly content to pass on this rating. Yuck. For Father’s Day, my dad requested mac salad, so I set out to find the “perfect” recipe.

When I prepare macaroni salad, I always follow this recipe. When I make mayonnaise, I use actual mayonnaise; I don’t have any Miracle Whip. Substitute green pepper for red, reduce sugar to 1/2 cup, and omit pickle relish.

It’s perfect for my purposes! For this recipe, I substituted strong cheddar cheese for the sugar and added sliced dill pickle. I used the egg as a type of garnish by placing slices of it on top of the salad and seasoning them with paprika.

INGREDIENTS

Salad

Macaroni for salad, pound
Ingredients: 1 small onion, coarsely diced 4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
Diced celery, 3 stalks
1 small sweet pepper, seeded and chopped finely (red or orange)

Dressing

2 cups of light mayonnaise; if using Miracle Whip, see the notes section.
one-half cup of sugar
mustard, either Dijon or yellow
2 tablespoons of dill pickle relish
1 tablespoon of white vinegar OR 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
Three-quarters of a teaspoon of celery seed
Paprika salt, 14 teaspoon (to garnish)

Instructions:

Over medium heat, bring a large pot of water to a boil.

Macaroni should be cooked as directed. When done, drain thoroughly, then rinse in cold water before transferring to a large bowl.

While the pasta is cooking, mix together the dressing ingredients. Putting aside.

Prepare the salad and hard-boiled eggs by chopping them. Sent off to the side.

After the macaroni has been drained and let to cool, the veggies and chopped hard-boiled eggs may be added, and the salad dressing can be gently mixed in.
If you like a really creamy salad, add it all. You can save 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of the dressing and keep it in the fridge for another time if you want a less creamy salad. It’s important to remember that the salad will soak up some of the dressing as it chills. If, after chilling, you find that the salad is too dry, you can add some of the dressing you set aside.

The longer you can let it chill in the fridge, the greater the flavor will be.

The tastes will improve with an extra night in the fridge.

Before serving, sprinkle some paprika on top.
