Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 8 oz (225g) sliced mushrooms
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are golden and tender.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and flour until smooth. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the mushrooms. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mushroom gravy to a simmer and cook for a few minutes until it thickens. Stir in the heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet.
- Cook the meatballs in the mushroom gravy for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until they are cooked through and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve the Salisbury Steak Meatballs hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley. They pair perfectly with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
Notes:
- Feel free to customize the seasonings to suit your taste preferences. You can add a dash of paprika or herbs like rosemary and thyme for extra flavor.
- For a lighter version, you can use lean ground beef or a combination of ground beef and ground turkey.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can add a slurry of cornstarch and water to the mushroom gravy and cook until desired thickness is reached.
