Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 60 minutes (+ cooling & assembly time)

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (and associated ingredients, typically eggs, oil, and water)
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies

For the Oreo Cream Filling:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 15 Oreo cookies, finely crushed

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • A pinch of salt

Additional:

  • Whole and crushed Oreo cookies for decoration

Directions:

  1. Chocolate Cake Layers:
    • Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the package instructions.
    • Gently fold in the crushed Oreo cookies.
    • Divide the batter between two greased and floured round cake pans.
    • Bake as per package instructions, typically at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
    • Allow cakes to cool completely.
  2. Oreo Cream Filling:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
    • Gently fold in the finely crushed Oreo cookies. Set aside.
  3. Chocolate Ganache:
    • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it’s just about to boil.
    • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let it sit for a minute and then stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth. Add a pinch of salt and mix.
  4. Assembly:
    • Place one chocolate cake layer on your serving plate or cake stand.
    • Spread a generous amount of the Oreo cream filling over the top.
    • Place the second cake layer on top.
    • Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing some to drip down the sides.
    • Decorate the top with whole and crushed Oreo cookies as desired.

Notes:

  • For an added twist, you can sprinkle some chocolate chips or white chocolate chunks between the cake layers.
  • Ensure the cake is completely cooled before assembly to prevent the cream and ganache from melting.
