Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (450 g)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (225 g)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth (240 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese, shredded (225 g)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (115 g)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles. Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the diced onion, sliced mushrooms, and minced garlic. Sauté until the mushrooms are golden brown and the onions are translucent.
  4. Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring gently to combine all the ingredients. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, ensuring everything is well combined and heated through. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish, spreading it evenly.

  1. Sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese over the top of the mixture, creating a generous layer of cheesy goodness.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and melted butter until well coated. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the cheese layer.
  3. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  4. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
  6. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of freshness and color.
  7. Serve the Mushroom and Swiss Cheeseburger Casserole hot, spooning generous portions onto plates.
  8. Enjoy the comforting flavors and the delightful combination of beef, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and breadcrumbs that make this casserole a true crowd-pleaser.
