These dessert bars have all of our favorite fall flavors!
Fall is finally here! While I enjoy the bright sun and warmth of summer, fall will always be my favorite season. There’s just something about the crisp, cool air, leaves crinkling underfoot, and cozy sweaters that call to me. And let’s not forget about the flavors of the season! Of course there’s pumpkin and pumpkin spice everywhere, but I have another go-to… Maple.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pumpkin spice latte as much as the next person, but maple-flavored things are at the top of my favorite fall flavors. Add in some brown sugar and apples, and I’m in heaven! That’s where these Maple Glazed Apple Blondies come into play. They have everything I love about autumn all wrapped up in a nice little blondie bar.
Makes 9 bars
15m prep time
30m cook time
BLONDIES
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
APPLE FILLING
2 large apples, finely chopped
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
MAPLE GLAZE
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 350 and line a 9×9 pan with tin foil (or spray with cooking spray).
APPLE FILLING
Combine all of the ingredients for the filling in a pot and cook on med-low heat for about 3-4 minutes. Pull off heat and allow to cool.
BLONDIES
Cream butter until light and fluffy, then add in brown and white sugar. Mix until well combined. Add in eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Finally, stir in salt and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and cinnamon together. Add to the wet ingredients and stir until combined.
In the bottom of the prepared pan, spread half the blondie batter evenly, using a spatula (the mixture will be thick, you may find it easier to use your hands).
Spread apple filling all over the layer. Top with remaining blondie batter and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean.
MAPLE GLAZE
Melt butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon over low heat. Once melted together, pull off the heat.
Sift in powdered sugar, and whisk until fully combined. Allow to cool for 8-10 minutes so the glaze can thicken.
Allow bars to cool for about 10 minutes, then pour the glaze over the bars and allow it to set. Slice into squares and enjoy!
