The Doritos chicken casserole is a tasty and filling recipe, ideal for a family meal or party. Crushed Doritos chips, shredded chicken, cheese, and a creamy sauce are the standard ingredients in this layered casserole. The taco seasoning is typically used to give the chicken a fiery flavor. Black beans, corn, and other vegetables can be used to enhance the flavor and texture of many dishes.
Crushed Doritos chips are used to line the bottom of the baking dish for the casserole. Next, a layer of shredded chicken and cheese are piled on top. The cheese is covered with a layer of sauce prepared from sour cream, cream of chicken soup, and taco spice. Bake the dish until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the Doritos are crunchy.
As a consequence, you get a tasty and filling casserole that goes great with a side of greens or a salad. Crunchy Doritos chips complement the dish’s rich and comforting flavor thanks to the cheese and creamy sauce. After all is said and done, the Doritos chicken casserole is a simple dish that will quickly become a household favorite.
The chicken Doritos casserole takes very little time to make. A Doritos chip shell, cheesy, crunchy topping, and savory chicken filling combine to create this delicious dish.
My family and I have become big fans of casseroles in recent years. When you’re at a loss for dinner ideas, a casserole is always a safe bet. It can be challenging to whip up a quick and easy meal after a long day at the office, but it’s worth the effort when you’re hungry and ready to relax. Yet, casserole dishes alleviate that pressure while also providing you with something very delicious to savor.
You won’t find a better chicken casserole than this Doritos version. I discovered it by chance, and now I always make it when I’m feeling particularly anxious on a weeknight because of schoolwork.
It has a fantastic flavor that’s hard to describe. With the addition of Doritos, it becomes savory, cheesy, and satisfyingly crunchy. Please do try this out. It’s not necessary to pick a school night. It’s ideal for a lunch or dinner on the weekend.
Ingredients
Crushed Doritos from one 7-ounce bag
Two to three cups of cooked chicken dice
1-cup of sour cream
Ingredients: 1 can of cream of chicken soup (condensed)
1/4 cup of onion that has been finely minced
a single teaspoon of chili powder
12 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup of shredded cheddar, either sharp or mild
one-half cup of mozzarella cheese, grated
Topping with fresh parsley
Instructions:
Step 1:
To bake successfully, preheating the oven to 350 degrees is a must.
Step 2:
Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray or spray with butter.
Step 3:
Sprinkle roughly 2 cups of the smashed Doritos on the bottom of the dish.
Step 4:
In a large bowl, mix together the chopped cooked chicken, sour cream, condensed soup, onion, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Step 5:
Transfer the chicken mixture to the casserole dish on top of the smashed Doritos. Add the leftover smashed chips and the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses on top of the chicken mixture.
Step 6:
Put it in the oven while it’s heating up, and bake it until the topping is bubbly and golden. To serve, take the dish out of the oven.
Tips and Variation:
Utilize already-cooked chicken, such as that found in your refrigerator’s leftovers, a rotisserie bird, or chicken breasts cooked especially for the dish. The greatest choice is shredded chicken because it can be easily layered and combined with the other components.
The most common choice is traditional Nacho Cheese Doritos, but you may switch things up by trying other varieties like Cool Ranch or Hot Nacho.
Throw in some diced tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, black beans, or corn for some color and nutrition.
Increase or decrease the amount of taco seasoning or splash in some hot sauce to achieve the desired level of spiciness in your dish.
Although cream of chicken soup is typically used, you may also use cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery soup to change up the flavor of this casserole.
Garnish with your favorite toppings before serving: sprinkle some chopped cilantro, avocado, black olives, or sour cream on top of the dish.
Relax the casserole for at least ten minutes before serving. The casserole will firm up and be easier to serve if you do this.
Is it okay to pre-cook this casserole?
This dish can be prepared in advance and stored in the fridge until it’s time to bake. Doritos can lose their crunchiness if the casserole is assembled too much in advance, so plan accordingly.
In other words, can I freeze this casserole?
This casserole can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. Wrap it well in plastic wrap and foil to prevent freezer burn. It is best to defrost the casserole in the refrigerator overnight before baking it.
May I substitute another cheese if necessary?
You can substitute whatever kind of cheese you like. Whilst Cheddar cheese is the most typical option, other cheeses like Monterey Jack or pepper jack work just as well or perhaps better in this casserole.
Do I need to use Doritos in this dish, or is there another option?
You can exclude the Doritos if you like when preparing this casserole. If you want to save time, you can omit the bottom layer and just pour the sauce over the chicken and cheese.
I don’t like chicken, but I’d want to cook this casserole.
The answer is yes; you may substitute ground beef for the chicken in a casserole recipe. Ground beef may easily be substituted for the chicken by just being cooked with taco seasoning and then layered with the rest of the ingredients.
