There’s a reason why banana pudding made at home is such a staple. The ultimate in comfort food is a trifle comprised with homemade vanilla pudding, bananas, vanilla wafer cookies, and whipped cream.
Ingredients:
Only 13 cup of whole milk
1 5.1-ounce bag of instant vanilla pudding mix
1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)
3-cups of full-fat cream
An Extract of Pure Vanilla Bean, 1 Tablespoon
One 12-ounce box of vanilla wafers
Four bananas, cut into quarters.
2 teaspoons of white sugar
Instructions:
Whisk the vanilla pudding mix, milk, and sweetened condensed milk together until there are no lumps, and then chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least five minutes, or until it has reached the desired consistency.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the vanilla extract and the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes. Use half of the mixture as a garnish, and incorporate the remainder into the chilled pudding.
Pour some vanilla wafers to cover the bottom of a three-quart trifle dish. You should start by spreading a third of the pudding into the dish, followed by another layer of cookies (you may need to arrange these in a vertical line along the edge of the serving dish), and finally a layer of bananas.
Banana pudding, wafers, and sliced bananas should be layered on top of one another, with the banana pudding serving as the final layer.
Refrigerate it for at least three hours and up to a full day.
The remaining whipped cream should have sugar added to it, and the two should be thoroughly mixed together. Put a dab on top of the banana pudding just before serving, and then sprinkle the remaining wafer cookies, in their crumbled form, on top of that.
