People always ask for the recipe when I serve these tortilla pinwheel sandwiches, which was provided to me by a friend. The cream cheese pinwheels can be prepared ahead of time and sliced just before serving, allowing you extra time to complete other last-minute party touches.

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup sour cream

1 can (4-1/4 ounces) chopped ripe olives

1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chiles, well drained

1/2 cup chopped green onions

Garlic powder to taste

Seasoned salt to taste

5 flour tortillas (10 inches)

Salsa, optional

Directions

To make the cream cheese, cheese, and sour cream smooth, cream together the cream cheese, cheese, and sour cream until smooth. In a mixing bowl, combine the olives, green chiles, green onions, and spices.

Cover the tortillas with the filling and roll them up tightly. After wrapping each in plastic and twisting the ends to close, chill for several hours.

Unwrap. Cut into 1/2- to 3/4-inch slices with a serrated knife. If preferred, serve with salsa.

APPETIZER TORTILLA PINWHEELS TIPS

1. Is it possible to prepare the pinwheels ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare the pinwheels up to 24 hours ahead of time, which will save you time on the big day. You can also try a variety of flavors, like these Ranch Tortilla Roll-Ups.

Also, before forming the dough into pinwheels, let it rest for at least an hour. This will allow the dough to soften and relax, making rolling it much easier.

You can make a batch of these lovely masterpieces the day before your party, but keep in mind that these pinwheels will convert into tortillas after their time in the oven, no matter what you do. Do you want them to be more in line with your overall theme? Tortilla wrappers in colors like red and yellow are usually available and can be used for flour tortillas. Remember to let the tortilla dough rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour before rolling it out and cutting it into pinwheels. This will help the dough to relax, making rolling simpler.

2. What’s the most effective way to keep tortilla roll-ups from getting soggy?

To avoid soggy tortilla roll-ups, make sure to measure the sour cream carefully. A mushy tortilla and drippy filling will result from a heaping cup of filling. The chilies, on the other hand, do not need to be drained. The filling’s creamy smoothness is aided by the small amount of liquid in a can of chopped green chilies. Also, to prevent the roll-ups from getting wet, cover them in plastic wrap.

3. What is the average lifespan of a pinwheel?

Any leftover pinwheel sandwiches should be preserved for as long as possible in an airtight container. It’s preferable to eat them within a day or two of receiving them. If you wait too long, they may become mushy.
