French Dip sandwiches with au jus are a delicious comfort food. This recipe’s seasoning is spot on, and it’s a breeze to put together thanks to the Crock Pot. If there are any leftovers, they’re delicious and won’t last long.

When I was younger, French Dip sandwiches were a special delicacy that only occurred on special occasions when we dined out. My opinion on French Dip sandwiches shifted dramatically as I learned how simple they are to make at home and could be cooked in a slow cooker.

My loved ones always ask for this dish when I make it. Occasionally, I’ll roast some vegetables to go with it, and at other times, I’ll just cook some air-fried fries. Pick something that appeals to your sense of taste, and you’ll enjoy a delicious supper.

INGREDIENTS

Two to three pound roast chuck
Pepper and Salt
Toss with 2 Tbsp. of Olive Oil
Beef stock to the quantity of 4 cups
An Onion Soup Seasoning Mix, One Count (1.9 oz. packet)
About four to five hoagie or French bread rolls
Eight slices of your choice of Swiss or mozzarella cheese

DIRECTIONS

Add salt and pepper liberally on both sides of the roast.

Place the olive oil in a big skillet (ideally cast iron) and heat over medium-high heat.

Put the roast in a hot pan and sear it for three to four minutes per side, or until a golden crust forms.

Prepare a slow cooker for the roast. Soup mix and beef stock are next.

Time it for 8-10 hours on low or 5-7 hours on high. Since cooking at a higher temperature will dry up the meat, slow cooking is recommended.

Take the roast out of the slow cooker and place it in a big bowl.

Using two forks, shred the meat, and then put it back into the slow cooker.

If you’re using a French loaf, slice it so that it’s sandwich-sized. Hoagie rolls, if unsliced, should be sliced before use.

Place the bread on a baking pan with the cut sides facing up.

Spread beef on a piece of bread, then smother it with cheese.

Broil for 1 minute, or until cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.

Taking out of the oven.

Empty the Crock Pot’s juice into individual dishes to use as au jus. If you want a more substantial au jus, go to the notes.

Hot sandwiches with au jus on the side, please.
